A Special Pilgrimage and Day Two of Novena to St. Ann----Plus my Notes

5-2-15

A Special Pilgrimage and Day Two of Novena to St. Ann------plus my Notes

From a Book titled, "Pilgrim In Time"--- by Rosanne Keller

"It's possible to have a Pilgrimage close to home. We can do something as simple as put a bench in a quiet corner of our backyard, perhaps plant some aromatic herbs on the path that release their fragrance as we walk or make a small altar, and 'journey' there for a quiet, peaceful, sacred moment.

When I lived in MINNESOTA, I went out, as often as I could, to a small knoll of the corner of the five acres behind my house. This was often my early morning pilgrimage. My ritual was always the same.

I rise early on a damp, foggy morning and I feel drawn to the bench I had put on the knoll. I walk along a path I have mown across a small hay field and through woods to get there. My small dancing dog and two cats play hide-and-seek in the wet grass. This is where I like to start my day.

There is no danger there. Nothing is foreign. All is familiar. The risk in this early morning pilgrimage is that I will go there with my mind already full and spinning with lists, unfinished arguments, complaints, vague discontent, preoccupations with myself or some mundane issue that I won't let wait until later, and that I will notice that the bench is damp or that there are too many mosquitoes or flies or that..... I will look but not really see, and not listen at all.

Sometimes I find deer grazing on the hillside---- silhouettes, like pewter statues. They are familiar with me and, unless the dog barks, hardly turn to see who is there. I've also seen rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, woodchucks, geese, and once a great blue heron family eating the corn remnant after harvest.

When I go there I do not think of Spain or Wales or cathedrals or cloisters of medieval monasteries.
I do not think at all. I breathe the peace of this CORNER OF GOD' CREATION. Each blade of grass, each gilded branch, the smell of growing things.

I go there at other times to read or to pass time with a friend, but IN THOSE EARLY HOURS I AM ALONE WITH GOD'S CREATURES AND THE BEAUTY OF THE EARTH.

Sometimes I stay until 6:50 when bells from Saint John's Abbey peal the call to Morning Prayer. I lean back, my feet propped on the table I've set before the bench and breathe in the broken silence. And each cell thrills to the AFFIRMATION OF FAITH THAT EACH DAY THE SUN WILL RISE AND DAYLIGHT WILL CREEP INTO THIS SPOT. Of that I can be sure. Summer, and winter, spring and fall, beginning each morning in this holy place sets the pattern, meter, and cadence of the day. And though I have many questions and serious doubts about some of the most basic precepts of the church, I am reminded of my SIMPLE STATEMENT OF FAITH, THAT GOD KNOWS WHAT GOD IS DOING WHETHER I APPROVE OF IT OR UNDERSTAND IT OR AGREE WITH IT ..... OR LIKE IT. THIS GIVES ME GREAT COMFORT.

If the goal of pilgrimage is transformation, do I return to the house from this small SACRED JOURNEY transformed, ready for coffee and conversation? We are changed sometimes by small gestures in some of the smallest ways. I do know that the day I begin in a hurry, frustrated that I cannot find things, angry over any little mishaps, also has a pattern, meter, and cadence to it. WE NEED TO BEGIN THE DAY WITH A SMALL PILGRIMAGE. STOP.... AND BE STILL.... AND LISTEN.... AND REMEMBER TO BREATHE IN AND OUT AND BE RENEWED IN THE FAITH THAT ALL WILL BE WELL, THAT THE WORLD IS BEAUTIFUL IN ITS CREATION......OF WHICH WE ARE A PART.

Day TWO of Novena to St. Ann  ---- for (Anna and Enga on Rainbow Bridge)

From the depths of my heart, good St. Ann, I offer you my homage this day and ask you to shelter me under the mantle of your MOTHERLY CARE. You know, good mother, how much I love you, how gladly I serve you, how happy I am praise you, how eager I am to call on you in tiem of distress.

Good St. Ann, be pleased to extend your helping hand to all my wants. listen to my prayers, for I place my trust in your gracious bounty. Make all my thoughts and desires worthy and righteous.

Jesus, I thank You for all the graces which in Your infinite goodness You have lavished upon St. Ann; for having chosen her, among all women, to be Your grandmother on earth and exalted her in heaven with such great and miraculous powers. In the name of her merits, I humbly recommend to Your infinite mercy.

Notes:
This past few days has really been a drain on me since losing my dear dog, Enga, very suddenly on 4-27-15 at 1:18 a.m.------it still seems so surreal.

I love the story about the backyard Pilgrimage, because that's what I've doing for more than 40 years----being an avid birder and gardener all those years added to the peacefulness of those very special moments. The past 11 1/2 years Enga did the pilgrimages with me---- she too understood and appreciated God's Creation.

The past few days have been very tough going out there without her at my side---- I still throw the ball for her to chase and count the first 15 species of birds that wake up and check out how all my plants, shrubs, and trees or doing.   Very, very painful not having her on my early morning "PILGRIMAGES."

Amen

Peace

Day 1 of my Nine Day Novena to St. Ann for my Granddaughter Anna and Enga

5-1-15

Day 1 of my Nine Day Novena to St. Ann for my Granddaughter Anna and Enga

Daily Prayer to Saint Ann

O glorious St. Ann, you are filled with compassion for those who invoke you and with love for those who suffer. Heavily burdened with the weight of my troubles, I cast myself at your feet and humbly beg of you to take the present intention which I recommend to you in your special care.

Please recommend it to your daughter, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and place it before the throne of Jesus, so that He may bring it to a happy issue. Continue to intercede for me until my request is granted. But, above all, obtain for me the grace one day to see my God face to face, and with you and Mary and all the saints to praise and bless him for all eternity. Amen.

Our Father...... Hail .....

O Jesus, Holy Mary, St. Ann, help me now and at the hour of my death.

Good St. Ann, intercede for me.

FIRST DAY

Dear St. Ann, though I am but a prodigal child, I appeal to you and place myself under your great motherly care. Please listen to my prayers and grant my requests. See my contrite heart, and show me your unfailing goodness.

Deign to be my advocate and recommend me to God's infinite mercy. Obtain for me forgiveness of my sins and the strength to begin a new life that will last forever.

Blessed St. Ann, I also beg of you the grace to love, to serve, and to honor your daughter, the most holy Virgin Mary. Please recommend me to her and pray to her for me. She refuses none of your requests but welcomes with loving kindness all those for whom you intercede.

Good Jesus, be merciful to the faithful servants of Your grandmother St. Ann.

PEACE,
Grandpazach

Rainbow Bridge

4-30-15

Rainbow Bridge

There is bridge connecting heaven and earth
It is called Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors

Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows,
hills, valleys with lush green grass

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this special place
There is always food and water and warm spring weather

The old and frail are young again
Those who are maimed are made whole again

They play all day with each other
There is only one thing MISSING

THEY ARE NOT WITH THEIR SPECIAL PERSON WHO LOVED THEM ON EARTH

So each day they run and play until the day comes
when one suddenly stops playing and looks up !!

The nose twitches !!
The ears are up !!
The eyes are staring !!
And this one suddenly runs from the group !!

You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet,
you take him or her into your arms and embrace
YOUR FACE IS KISSED AGAIN AND AGAIN,
and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet

THEN YOU CROSS THE RAINBOW BRIDGE TOGETHER, NEVER AGAIN TO BE SEPARATED !

What a beautiful piece. I'm a 72 year old man that never heard or seen this before this week.
Two or three of you sent this to me ---- THANK YOU very much!

My 11 1/2 year old, mostly Black ,with Tan legs, German Shepard died Monday Morning at 1:18 A.M.   Today I woke up at exactly 1:18 and couldn't get back  to sleep---- so it's been a long day.
It's included many thoughts that she was still with us------pain, but yet also wonderful thoughts of  THE THINGS WE DID TOGETHER.

My land phone, cell phone, texts, e-mails, Facebook, and private messenger have been receiving messages since word got out about Noon on Monday. Thank you. It doesn't make the news but it shows what a special place we live in ----- with people helping people.

Daily Miracles

4-28-15

Daily Miracles

By the Lord has this been done; it is wonderful to our eyes. Psalm 118:23

From Living Faith by Steve Givens

There have been times in my life when I have been left speechless by the wonder of what I saw before me, such as the first glimpse of the Grand Canyon, my wife walking down the aisle at our wedding and the birth of our two children. I had no words. What I saw before me was so awe-inspiring that I knew the hand of God had to be at work.

Einstein said, 'There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle." We can see each sunrise, each newborn child, each encounter with beauty and chalk them up to chance, or we can stand back in wonder at these daily miracles and yawn; the second is a gasp. You choose.

Lord, fill my life with wonder and a sense of you.

Notes: As I mentioned yesterday we suddenly lost our almost 12 year old German Shepherd early yesterday morning. Everything I see and do around the house and the yard reminds me of Enga.
She is being cremated and we will scatter some ashes around the yard and on all the trails we used around here.

In the meantime this is the time of the year that Miracles are happening big time each and every day--- with all the flowers in bloom, buds and flowers on the shrubs and trees, plus the Bird migration is in full swing. Stop, Look and Listen to all that God's Creation has to over us, you will soon realize that
we are blessed with a sense of awe and wonder no matter where we live.
I'm going out for a short hike.
